Willing to quote on a specific project vs. using the hourly rate structure.
Standard hourly rate is $40/hour for concept-perception editing, technical editing, novel editing and manuscript editing; and, a special rate for students of $25/hour for straight copyediting and/or proofreading.
Rates for ongoing, large projects are negotiable (and billing for larger and ongoing projects is also flexible).
Turnaround time: Proofreading up to 3,000 words will be done to your satisfaction in 24-48 hours. Anything over 3,000 words requires a discussion to confirm the timeline. Darlene works interactively, so for longer documents, she will share changes in parcels that are easily reviewed by you. This insures that you are on the same track and avoids long revisions at the end. If you are a new client or someone not known through a mutual source, a deposit in advance of a large project will be needed — in cases where the client submits one chapter for editing and review before committing to the larger project, the minimum charge (which is the one hour rate) is due. Darlene’s goal is to work in harmony with the writer, helping the writer to showcase the product. The partnership between an author and an editor is a special relationship.
